Our Story

Welcome to Silver Lining Rabbitry and Homestead

I would like to tell you a bit about our family. We are the Martin family, and live on a small homestead in Greenup County, Kentucky. Our family of 6 live, work and school together. A homesteading lifstyle is our way of life. We enjoy living off the land and using all the resouces God has giving us. God provided for us in every way. Ways that are quickly becoming lost. We would like to change that. We can teach and pass on a hardworking simple lifestyle that can and will provide.

Raising and growing our own food is an important part of our lifestyle. We are raising sheep, dairy goats, chickens, turkeys, meat rabbits and pigs as our meat sources at this time. Growing a small yet large heirloom organic garden provides our veggies ,berries as well as a few fruit trees and vines gives us that something sweet we all love.

Foraging and herbs are another wonderful God given gift for all of us to use. Learning how to identify and use many wild plants and herbs is an important task I wish to pass on and continue to use and learn more of along the way. Many old fashioned skills are soon to be skills of the past. We would like to pass on as many of those skills as we can.

Here at the homestead everything has a use and many serve more than one purpose. Like pigs for example they are pasture pigs and during fall/winter can make use of windfall fruit and till up and fertilize our unused garden areas. Rotational grazing of animals composting and letting multiple species graze together to make good use of all the different plantlife in the pastures can help to maintain a healthy field, with healthy animals and low maintnance.

If you have an interest in homesteading or any old fashioned lifeskills. I hope you can keep in touch thru this blog, enjoy the posts and pick up a new skill or two. God bless each and everyone of you.

Keep watching for our next blog post!
